COVID-19: Resources and Updates

Dear All,

I wish you all a very happy and a healthy year ahead. The Pandemic has taught each one of us many lessons. Most of us, by the grace of God have worked through the pandemic in various capacities in our cities and hospital as front-line warriors. I congratulate you all for coming out of it unscathed. A lot of us have had one or two family members affected by Covid-19 and hopefully most would have recovered. A few have however succumbed to the virus and I pray for their souls to attain peace.

ASSI has done well during the pandemic and in spite of the lockdown has conducted many webinars and virtual conferences with international presence. A lot of research and publications have also come around this time and we all learnt how to reinvent ourselves.

ASSI has grown leaps and bounds in the last few years led by our past presidents. Their executives too, have shown exemplary dedication to make the organisation better by the day. A road map has been already laid out on the way forward by Dr Chhabra our ex-president with inputs from all of you. We need to keep the momentum going and as has been the trend to get more and more young surgeons and physicians involved.

It shall be my endeavour to continue to do so. I am also privileged to have a very young and dynamic executive who are all geared to burn the midnight oil to make ASSI great.

From April 1st we shall be starting the Value-Added Subscription Service (VASS) payable yearly which would provide added privileges to members subscribing to it. The payment link shall be in our website. It is my fervent appeal to you all to enrol for the value added service and participate in the functioning of the ASSI. The emails have already been simplified for everyone to interact and it is on the website. You must have already received a mail from the ASSI Secretariat to update your mailing details. In case you haven’t received the mail, please write to us at assisecretariat@assi.in

As the pandemic tapers off we hope to kick start the actual activities offline. The outreach programs, the capacity building, the live operative courses and the meetings. However, the patterns of the meetings have changed to the hybrid mode. This will help us to participate globally and collaborate with societies around the world.

As we have discussed earlier in the last GBM, ASSI will come out with a manual for operation theatre for fellows, residents, theatre personnel & OT staff and will be upgraded every two years, to keep pace with changing technology.

As you are all aware Artificial Intelligence, Virtual realty & Augmented realty will touch us all the way we work and treat patients. With this in mind I appeal to all those interested to participate and contribute to this exciting new addition in technology to send in their ideas. Hoping that the schools start soon and we should be able to kick start the School Screening of Scoliosis as well. We already have 12 centres’ in various cities participating and others keen to do so. If anyone wants to join please let me know.

Please feel free to write to me or any of the executive members, and we shall go through all suggestions and ideas.

Let us all have a great year ahead, learning, enjoying and improving all the way. It is still a big family and it shall be my endeavour to keep it that way.

With kind regards,

Long live ASSI,

Jai Hind.
